Principles based on social cues
- Personalization principle: People learn better when the words are in conversational style rather than formal style.
- Voice principle: People learn better when words are spoken in a standard-accented human voice than in a machine voice or foreign-accented human voice.
- Image principle: People do not necessarily learn better from a multimedia lesson when the speaker’s image is added to the screen.
The personalization principle suggests that individuals have the ability to learn more from dialogue based conversations rather than formal style. I think this is definitely true and as I plan to create my website, I will utilize conversational style words to attract the attention of my audience. The voice principle suggests that people learn better from natural voices versus computerized voices. In that sense, I can use my own voice to layer with sound with in any still or moving image. Lastly, I think the image principle is really interesting because it suggests that the designer's selected image is the single most important aspect of the design. People can learn from the chosen image or the viewer can be terribly distracted. Either way, image selection plays a pivotal role in the completeness of the presentation or of the design.
